Palangka Raya city hotel pickup by your guides at 8.30am for the trip to KerengBangkirai Port, where we will register at the office of the Sebangau National Park Authority to enter the park and to pick up some information sheets. Accompanied by national park rangers, we transfer to amotorised canoe to travel across the beautiful black water Sabangau Lake and up the Sabangau River, a trip of approx 40 minutes.
Entering the narrow canals, our journey by boat into the park will depend on the river depth. After a time, we disembark, and do some trekking into the forest to see the endemic vegetation. Keep an eye out for the wildlife, such hornbills, proboscis monkeys, ants nests, wild orangutans and their nests, monitor lizards, and many others. These sightings cannot be guaranteed. Walking through the peat swamp forest is a challenge, especially when water levels are high, but there is a rough trail for 2-3 hours for the hardy walker.
On completion of this walk, we return to a National Park camp on the lake, where a small tower may be climbed for views over the beautiful watery landscape. Enjoy a simple lunch box and relax. Return to your boat for the return journey to Kering Bangkirai at 3 pm. Return to Palangka Raya city hotels.
Package includes pick up from the hotel, motorized boat, guides, drinking water, simple lunch, as per itinerary, and park entry fee.
Please wear long sleeves and covered shoes, bring insect repellent, hats and also binoculars, if you have them.
Note – peat swamp forest may be flooded and is not an easy, even trail, making the trekking difficult, we recommend you have a medium to high level of fitness fit for this trip.
