Wildlife & village immersion – Family Aug 2023

What a totally amazing experience for us all. We saw proboscis monkeys, trekked like intrepid adventurers into the jungle, and saw a beautiful adult male. We rescued a water monitor lizard from a fishing trap, saw river otters and caught our own fish. All of this was made completely wonderful by our guide, Made, who bought the adventurer out in us all. The boys absolutely loved him, and he was knowledgeable, entertaining, and very accommodating of all our needs, including getting out beds for us to watch shooting stars. The jungle is hot and sticky and boats are difficult to make luxurious, but the wonderful food, really attentive crew, and endless supply of coffee and freshly squeezed juice made it a wonderful experience. There are lots of really sweet touches like scrubbing our Maddie, checking shoes and bringing breakfast in bed to a teen who wasn’t feeling great. Highly recommend to any family adventurers.

” How can you not take a Wow Borneo orangutan river cruise when in Indonesia? Wow Borneo is Subud-owned. Its 2 Directors are Gaye Thavisin and Harris Madden, with major shareholdings, and there are also 20 smaller shareholders, 19 of whom are Subud members.

Deanna Kasta recently took a cruise on Wow Borneo’s flagship, the Rahai’i Pangun, operating from Palangka Raya. She said : “Only by boat can you get such great views of orangutans playing, swinging, picking fruit and caring for their babies in their beautiful natural habitat.

“Wow Borneo’s traditional river boats each have 5 crew to look after you with excellent Indonesian cuisine. They know to keep low on sugar oil and salt for western tastes. Our guide was exceptional and explained so much about the rich and unique culture of the local people let alone the wealth of the flora and fauna. The cabin bed and…

… shower were of an excellent standard. All aspects of the trip were expertly planned by Gaye and her team, refined over 15 years of successful operation.

“This was the best unforgettable experience of my 3.5 weeks in Rungan Sari, so come early or stay on later after the congress to get this unique authentic experience.”

5 stars – November 2023

Trip of a life time! Seeing Orangutans so close along with the Proboscis Monkey and Gibbons was amazing. No crocodile sightings, unfortunately. WOW Borneo was responsive throughout the booking process. The crew were knowledgeable and friendly. The boat itself was beautiful. There were other less expensive boats but after seeing them from afar as we journeyed down the river, we saw what we were paying for. The accommodations were very nice and really comfortable. The food was authentic and delicious. First class service. Note.. they had bug spray and umbrellas on board, so not really necessary to bring. Alcohol is banned in that area but I believe you can bring your own alcohol on board. A glass of wine in the evening would have really finished off the tour each day. Be prepared for very hot and humid and lots of rain. But the rain was very beautiful as you sat on the boat deck. Very relaxing!
